Website Redesign in Manchester: Should You Rebuild or Refresh?
Written by Simon Fielding, Founder, HollowMINT

Signs you need more than a facelift
It's slow or broken on mobile — If pages take several seconds to load on a phone, or layouts break on small screens, the problem is usually the foundations, not the colours.
You can't update it yourself — or without breaking it — A site that needs a developer for every small change is costing you time and money every month.
It runs on outdated software — Old themes, plugins and platforms that no longer receive updates are a security risk and increasingly hard to fix.
It doesn't match how you work now — If you've added services, online booking or a shop since the site was built, a template stretched to fit rarely ends well.
Refresh or rebuild?
| Tier | Typical Range | Includes |
|---|---|---|
| Refresh | £1,000 – £3,000 | New look, updated content, speed and mobile fixes, same underlying platform |
| Rebuild | £2,500 – £6,000 | New design and structure, modern foundations, SEO set up properly, easier to manage |
| Rebuild with custom features | £6,000+ | Booking, portals, integrations or automation built around your workflow |
How to redesign without losing your rankings
Every old URL has a plan — Keep addresses the same where possible. Where they change, set up permanent (301) redirects from the old page to the closest new one.
Good content comes with you — Pages and posts that already bring traffic should be carried over and improved, not quietly dropped.
Titles, descriptions and structure are rebuilt properly — Each page needs a clear title, description and heading structure, plus accurate structured data.
You monitor after launch — Submit the new sitemap in Google Search Console and watch for errors and drops in the weeks that follow.
A redesign is a chance to fix the process, too
